Evaluating the tuberculisis programme: A Registry Review from Sidama Region, Ethiopia

Background Despite global efforts to end tuberculosis (TB) by 2025, TB remains a major public health challenge worldwide, and elimination targets remain unmet.

Objective. This study aims to assess the performance of TB control programs in the Sidama Region, Southern Ethiopia. Specifically, it will (1) examine trends in TB case notifications and treatment outcomes, and (2) analyze spatiotemporal clustering and distribution patterns of TB from 2003 to 2025 to determine whether observed patterns reflect true disease incidence or disparities in access to TB control services.

Methods and Materials The study will be conducted in the Sidama Region of Southern Ethiopia and will include all permanent residents registered for TB treatment at TB control facilities between January 2003 and December 2025. Data will be collected using a pre-tested structured extraction tool. Key outcomes include TB case notification rates, treatment outcomes, and spatial clustering. Descriptive analyses will be performed, and TB notification rates, treatment outcomes, and spatiotemporal patterns will be estimated. Ethical approval has been obtained from Hawassa University and the Sidama Region Public Health Institute.
