Dr Fekadu Massebo is coordinating the Senuph-II project at Arba Minch University.

Fekadu Massebo is an associate professor who teaches medical entomology. Fekadu graduated with a Master’s in Entomology from Addis Ababa University in 2006 and a Bachelor’s in Biology from Bahir Dar University in 2000. His PhD was awarded by the University of Bergen in Norway, where his research was on malaria vectors and control strategies. He also took malaria control training at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Bergen at the moment.

Dr Fekadu’s important research on malaria and vector-borne diseases can be seen in these peer-reviewed journals.

In 2014, Fekadu launched the first master’s programme in Medical Entomology and Vector Control in Ethiopia. He also co-founded the PhD programme in infectious diseases. He is a member of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, the Pan-African Mosquito Control Association, and the Ethiopian Society of Tropical and Infectious Diseases as an executive member. At multiple conferences, including the Multilateral Initiative on Malaria (MIM) in 2014 and 2018, the PAMCA in 2023, and various national conferences, Fekadu presented his studies.

His current field trial seeks to control malaria vectors using ivermectin to target outdoor animal feeders and better housing. Sand-flies, Leishmaniasis, tsetse control and trapping methods, Aedes mosquitoes and viral infections are also among the research topics of Fekadu. Fekadu set up a molecular entomology facility for advanced entomological and malaria research. The laboratory focuses on the molecular approaches for diagnosing malaria parasites and their interactions with vectors.

His research has been funded by the Norwegian Programme for Capacity Development in Higher Education and Research for Development (2014-2026).
